Reflections about PLE tools

The definition of PLE I feel more connected to, is from Attwell, when he states that PLEs are the comprise of all the different tools we use everyday for learning formally and informally. Does this mean its every tool I use? Well...yes, why not? It seemed somewhat confusing and disperse the first time I thought about it, but after I tried to build up my own PLE by using Netvibes to aggregate all the feeds from the web places I was learning from or thought I would learn from, I began to understand how important was the idea of "all the different tools we use everyday". I felt that the Netvibes was one more tool, but not 'the' tool. I imagine a PLE as more organic, with an easy flow between the web references and tools I choose to aggregate and use. But as a teacher, I see Netvibes as one great tool to help me organize and aggregate content to share online with students.

To be more organic nowadays, I believe the person needs to be an excellent user of the tools. Maybe in a close by future, that excellence won't be necessary to go with the flow of online connected knowledge!

[Art Education is the topic for inquiry for me to build my PLE, in the PLEK12 course.]

I too look at Netvibes as the first step to build my Personal Learning Environment. It is a very simple and almost intuitive tool that allows me to keep, in a single space, all the information and resources I need to look at and work with.
I also consider Twitter as one of the most important tools for my PLE. From my timeline I can see, in real time, what my gurus (and my teachers and friends) are saying about what, what they are publishing, talking about. Twitter is, for me, something like a mico/macro solar system, a place where I can jump from one resource to another, from one person to another, and where I can find great things!

Hello Mónica:)
Totally agree with you about Twitter, and I'll add Facebook to my personal list of tools. To follow and learn by using twitter I think we need to be very disciplined in reading the update posts... sometimes its overwhelming. Since I tend to memorize better the information if I there is one image added to it (that explains my Art incursion), I tend to feel more comfortable in spaces that allow that. Netvibes has all this: the updates, the text, the visual support. But I discontinued using it for my PLE because it only allows me to consult information. The great thing about tools like Twitter and Facebook is that it allows us to consult, share, and contribute without leaving the same tool. Thats more of a flow :) Lets wait and see how I evolve in this PLE study adventure with PLEK12. I still have 2 questions to try and answer: what is the best tool or set of tools to build my PLE? As a teacher, what is the best tool for me to present publicly my PLE to my students?
